Hitoshizuku – a drop of water.

In contrast to my works for large ensemble, my works for small chamber ensembles seldom seek to 'enlarge' the sound, to create the illusion that additional instruments are present; rather, I prefer to capitalise upon subtle details, to create an intimacy which could never exist within the context of a larger-scale work. Hence, my works for fewer musicians become, as a general rule, proportionally more minimal in nature, and draw upon a far more modest pool of material.

Following the 2011 earthquake & tsunami in Japan, Ensemble MMM initiated a project in which a number of works would be composed and recorded, with proceeds going to help those affected by the disaster.
